Cancel Survivor Physical Therapy Program

Physical therapists can play a vital role in determining and treating any physical impairments or functional limitations encountered by many survivors who want to return to their previous activities or are motivated to initiate new health changes for a better quality of life.

To improve the transition from cancer patient to cancer survivor, THERAPY1ONE Rehabilitation Center   is now expanding their services in the Panama City community.  We are the only facility to offer structured  physical therapy programs by trained cancer rehabilitation professionals.

Susie Garcia, OT, OCS

Susie Garcia, PT, OCS
has been working at THERAPY1ONE since 2010.  She graduated with a
Bachelor’s Degree in 2004 from Florida International University and went on to
receive her Master’s degree in Physical Therapy three years later. While most
of her clinical practice involves working with Orthopedic and Geriatric
patients, the combination of all her knowledge has resulted in applying her
skills as a cancer rehabilitation clinician.

James Cutchin, PTA, CET

James Cutchin, PTA, CET began
working for THERAPY1ONE after graduating from Gulf Coast Community College in
2010. He chose physical therapy as a profession so he can assist others in
improving their quality of life and reaching their maximum potential.  He
hopes to promote exercise as a significant element of cancer recovery as a
certified cancer exercise specialist.

Our goal is to develop individualized plans to ultimately help survivors regain their independence and minimize disability following the completion of their cancer treatment.

Research shows that physical therapy significantly decreases the side effects of medical treatment and improves survival rates after cancer diagnosis.  Our physical therapists are professionally trained to offer evidence based programs to cancer patients set forth by the American College of Sports Medicine and American Cancer Society.

During their rehabilitation program, patients are assessed at their initial consultation and prescribed a plan of care that includes safe activities and effective exercises within their level of training intensity while under the supervision of a physical therapist.  Intensity levels are based on the patient’s present physical status, current phase of treatment, and results from physical therapy evaluation and clinical exercise testing.

What can patients expect?

· Patient education

· Manual Therapy

· Progressive exercises

· Balance assessments

· Modalities

   Who can benefit the most?

· Research shows greatest improvement for those

who have completed

medical treatment but the program is available
to everyone

Although cancer treatments have advanced and become more effective in recent years, survivors are sometimes still left with the long term side effects of chemotherapy or radiation. Common impairments can include:

·       Weakness

·       Cancer Related Fatigue

·       imbalance

·       flexibility deficits

·       fibrous adhesions/scarring

·       pain

·       swelling

·       muscle atrophy

·       weight gain

·       peripheral neuropathy

·       decreased joint range of motion

·       difficulty ambulating

Sending a Ray of Sunshine!

When I walked in the door I was greeted from a ray of sunshine named Jennifer. At the appointment time either Paige or Kelli called me back for my treatment. For an 83 year man with arms that didn't work after 18 or so treatments I was almost back to normal.

No one could have treated me better than these three ladies,

Healing of the Foot

After 14 visits following 3 foot surgeries I am doing much better, less swelling and less pain. I still have a way to go before I am totally recovered, but I have a very good start thanks to the 2 gentleman physical therapists that worked with me. They were very considerate and professional! The staff at the front desk were very kind, thoughtful, and professional. I found my whole experience at therapy1one was very beneficial to the healing of my foot.

Respectfully,

Donna J.

Freedom!!

I came in on crutches and left with hardly a limp. Everyone was very helpful and professional. From the moment you walked in (thank you so much Jennifer) you were made to feel at home and cared for. Kelli and her interns were very knowledgeable and their expertise was instrumental in my recovery.

Thank you,
Dan M.
